History

Through History we aim to foster in the children an appreciation of change and continuity, an awareness of the nature of evidence, an empathy with the past, an ability to pose historical questions and a sense of chronology and time.

Our children learn about famous people, events and developments in British history, and also study ancient civilization. We inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past and ensure that our teaching equips pupils to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments and develop perspective and judgement.

We teach history in a way that helps pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time. Our curriculum aims are supported and enhanced by visits to places of interest and visiting speakers.
