Hawking - Nursery and Reception

The Foundation Stage class at Sharow CE School is called Hawking and it has a combination of Nursery and Reception children (ages 3-5). The classroom provision is set up to develop children’s independence and they are encouraged to access equipment and materials without adult help as far as possible. Young children learn best through first-hand experience and when they are interested and motivated to learn, they develop a love of learning. We strive to promote a learning environment that supports this ethos. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum using the children's own interests to create exciting learning opportunities. Some of our recent topics have been: Fairytales, Space, Amazing Animals, Pirates and Mermaid.

This is what some of our current parents/carers say about our provision...

"Always informative about what is happening during the term"

"Great early years teaching staff who the younger children adore. Amazing outside play provision"

"Lovely school and a fabulous setting with a great community feel"

"Our son has made a fantastic start and has a secure foundation of learning"

"My child loves coming to school and can't wait to find out what is in the curiosity cube"

"We have loved looking after the Giant African snails, Sprout and Shelly!"

"There is no better nursery provision anywhere! The way the children are looked after is incredible. Not only that as the nursery is paired with the reception class this gives the children a lovely introduction into school. My children learned so much from their time in the nursery and were ready and well equipped for school on all measurable levels, as well as emotionally. The early years teacher is quite remarkable and I will be eternally grateful for everything she did for my children. The teaching assistants too are wonderful. This is the top school and nursery in the area and I cannot rate it highly enough."
