We were so lucky to get the chance to work with Dan Metcalfe who is a local artist. He created the silhouette soldiers that are dotted all around Ripon. Dan brought in a special mix of soil that the children molded into a sculpture of their choosing. We had hedgehogs, love hearts, bunnies and rocks; it was lots of messy fun! We 'planted' poppy seeds into our sculptures. We then took our sculptures home in a freezer bag with instructions that it will need to go in the freezer for three days. The sudden drop in temperature mimics a winter, causing the seeds to activate ready to germinate when the sculpture is then put in the light and heat of the garden.
It was a great day!
